Tehran says Syria’s borders should be controlled

TEHRAN – A top Iranian diplomat has said that Syria’s borders should be controlled to prevent shipment of weapons to terrorists.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian made the remarks during a meeting with the Swedish special representative for Syria in Tehran on Tuesday.

He also stated that negotiation is the only way to resolve crisis in Syria.

He highlighted the importance of maintaining Syria’s territorial integrity, stability and security.

He went on to say that Syria’s “political future” should be determined by the Syrian people.

The Swedish Foreign Ministry official stated that Iran plays an “important” role in settling crisis in Syria.

He praised Iran’s efforts to help create stability in the Mideast region.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he described cooperation between the UN and the international community as best way to settle the Syrian crisis.
